Blueberries in my yard???

My kids LOVE to plant things. Especially Alden.
Our friend Emile DeFelice, owner of Caw Caw Creek Pastured Pork, recently bought Alden a live oak, which the kids planted in our front yard.

Today, we planted blueberry bushes. I REALLY hope we keep them alive. We added the egg shells we've been saving to the dirt, and watered them with the rainwater we've been collecting in our swimming pool. I'll keep you posted on this project.

I killed my raspberry bush last year, so I hope we do better this year. I really want these berries . . . .

Blueberries do well in sand, but need some compost mixed in the soil. If you did not do this, mulch with it around the bushes. This will help to keep the soil temperature even and moisture in. Don't expect many berries this year if the bushes are new. Come home for some as mine are looking good!

Can't help you... I have a disorder better known as "black thumb." Whenever a plant comes my way, my husband (supportive loving guy that he is) groans and asks, "what did the poor plant do to deserve such a fate?" Nice...

I hope it works out for you!!!
